Aloe Vera is truly a superfood gift from the ancient Egyptians, who first discovered this healing food. The gel of raw aloe vera contains vitamins A, C, and E, the minerals sulfur, calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and chromium, as well as antioxidants, fiber, amino acids, enzymes, sterols, lignans, and, most importantly, polysaccharides. Aloe's polysaccharides have a lubricating effect on the joints, brain, nervous system, and the skin. They also have immuno-modulating effects, which means they allow the human immune system to fight back chronic viral, nanobacteria, and fungal infections.
Topical Healing Benefits
Fresh aloe vera gel, when applied topically, assists in the healing of sunburns and other burns faster than any other substance. This is most likely due to the high concentration of MSM and polysaccharides that aloe vera contains. The key to using aloe vera effectively is exposing the gel by removing the skin and then placing the gel on the affected area for several hours without removing it. Simply rubbing aloe vera briefly on an area will not be effective.
Aloe Vera For Digestive Wellness
Aloe vera is helpful for all types of digestive problems and can aid in recovery from digestive illnesses such as colitis, ulcers, and irritable bowel syndrome. Research suggests that aloe vera polysaccharides are responsible for the calming effects on digestion. Additionally, aloe's ability to support the replication of healthy epithelial cells that line our inner digestive environment is well known. Aloe cuts and dissolves mucous in the intestines, which helps to increase nutrient absorption.

Aloe vera is also terrific addition to any weight loss and fitness program, as it has been shown that when you ingest aloe, you can lose weight and also gain lean muscle mass. Aloe vera combines well with other foods and can easily be added to smoothies, fresh juices and salads.
15 Minute Face Lift
Legend has it that Cleopatra attributed her great beauty to the practice of massaging fresh aloe vera gel onto her skin each day ... why not give it a try? Select fresh aloe vera that is juicy and plump with gel, preferably an outdoor plant, as it will retain a high concentration of MSM absorbed from rain. Slice the leaf to reveal the juice inside and scrape out about a tbsp. to apply to your face. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water to reveal your firmer, younger looking skin!
Hydrating Aloe Juice Cocktail
Juice of 1 cucumber
Juice of 1-2 apples
Juice of 1 freshly squeezed lemon
pinch of Himalyan salt
Blend ingredients with 2 oz. food grade aloe vera gel in a blender, add ice if desired and enjoy!
Purchasing Aloe Vera
Aloe vera leaves are usually a foot or two in length and dull green in color. They have a succulent texture and are rich with gel inside. Purchase only organic aloe vera and select plants that are thick with gel and free of white speckles. You can find food grade organic aloe vera juice, as well as lotions and gels, at your local health food store or Whole Foods. One of my favorite aloe products is "Aloe Life Cherry Berry" whole leaf aloe vera concentrate. I mix 2 oz. with water and take my morning supplements with it ... super yummy!
Warning: Due to it's strong effects in cleansing the liver, pregnant women and young children should not take aloe vera internally
