My client Meg stopped by for a Health Coaching session after having just finished an intense workout with Kwanua Robinson of Body Mechanix. I had just finished my own training session with Tracy Anderson (in the privacy of my living room of course) and was in need of a refreshment. I'd been wanting to try out the new "Cacao Bliss", Artisana's raw chocolate coconut butter that I'd just picked up at Whole Foods, so I blended:
- 2 cups coconut water
- 2 tbs Cacao Bliss
- 1 cup frozen organic strawberries
- 1 banana
- 1 tbs bee pollen
- 1 tbs e3Live Renew Me
We drank our smoothies (delicious by the way!) and immediately felt not only refreshed from the natural electrolytes in the coconut water, but super ready for our session and kinda blissed out. Wanna know why? Meg's Cacao Bliss smoothie was loaded with phenylethylamine (PEA). PEA has been dubbed the "love chemical" due to it's ability to create feelings of attraction, excitement, or euphoria. When we fall in love our PEA levels increase, making us feel full of optimism. PEA is found in great natural abundance in both raw cacao and AFA blue-green algae, the particular type of algae grown on the Klamath Lake in Oregon where the company e3Live harvests it for their products. When the brain is flooded with PEA, the neurotransmitter dopamine is blocked from being deactivated and dopamine levels rise. Elevated dopamine levels are associated with increased mental concentration and a positive attitude ... a winning combination to ensure a productive and inspiring coaching session! Good trick, huh?
